Secrets of Blackmoor: What people like you say about the movie
It's strange that I've played this game for over 30 years and yet was completely ignorant of where it REALLY came from. I thought I knew the story, but in hindsight I had half the picture from biased sources. Great documentary! So much rich history. - Eric Awesome movie!!! I grew up in the Twin Cities!!! (In the 1990's) can't believe how much took place right there!!! - Dan Great doc! Very well done...entertaining and informative! - Carl Just wanted to say: well done! Just finished watching, and besides learning a few new things about the early days of RPGs, you go the feeling across that playing with Dave and the rest of the Blackmoor people would simply be a tremendous amount of fun. - Sebastian I purchased the documentary on Vimeo and love it! - Vinnie Just finished watching Blackmoor. I am very impressed by the quality. So many people telling the story and what it was like to interact with David Arneson at that time. Thanks for all your work, research, long hours, and creativity. This is a story that has long been waiting to be told. - Helen So, so much stuff to process. Things I kind of guessed might be true, connections made, hard facts to delight. I’m really enjoying it and will return to it again and again. The human side of it is (mostly) heart-warning, but here’s the thing that really caught me by surprise: I'm watching this for perhaps the fifth time and it's causing me to do some independent reading and research. Thank you. - Brian I watched the movie yesterday via Vimeo and just wanted to let you know I was absolutely fascinated to discover so much back story about a hobby I have enjoyed for 40-ish years. More of these, please! - Lee Just finished watching it. Very good, highly recommend. - Mark Just watched the VOD for the third time. Each time I catch new details in the old photos or the B-roll footage. Very well-done documentary, guys. You guys are a breath of fresh air! This truly is a story told by fans for fans. - Travis Just love your film. Thanks. Right film at the right time. - Stephen This was an absolutely outstanding documentary! Reminded me of my teens where I was part of a wargames group (as well as playing rpgs.) Loved the history from everyone and especially the story of braunstein. Thanks to you all. - Ethan |
This is one of the most meticulously researched, and lovingly made documentaries I've ever seen. If you have a passion for gaming or an academic interest in simulation rules, you just can't go wrong with this film. - Kevin A heart-warming documentary. - Jason This was absolutely thrilling to find this amazing story and so well presented. I have been looking for this exact documentary, but saw some dead kickstarters here and there. I'm so glad you were able to bring this film to fruition. I hope to share this with all my friends. Thank you so much - Max Just watched it tonight.. Fantastic!! As a life-long fan, it was great to watch the history and evolution... Also, Santa brought Dungeon for my son this past Xmas and he loves it.. We just played it for family game night Saturday.. So seeing David Megarry literally got me all choked up. Very cool. Excellent job folks! Can't wait for Volume 2... - Steve Rented it last night. Good stuff! Can't wait for part two. -Andrew This really sent me back years. It is mind blowing to see the evolution of thought processes as the game moves in time. How the interactions of creation between the players and associates came to be. This truly was a revolution. - tacoturtle You've done something important for posterity and for the gaming community. As a practicing professional historian I am deeply appreciative of work like this, it's fundamental to the hobby and our self-understanding. And it's also freaking cool. It isn't about "How D&D was created," it is a lesson in how we create D&D as we play - D.H. The journey you guys have been on, and the one you kept us up to date with, had been awesome! I was in the UK, in a seaside town in Devon when I came across Blackmoor, and the place has always been in my games one way or another. Thanks for all the hard work and memories! - Kinglsey Just finished! Loved it, great job! - Jim I've purchased the movie and am enjoying it right now...30 minutes from the beginning and I'm so happy with it! So inspiring! - Marco The are many D&D stories to tell, and many documentaries telling them. Check out Secrets of Blackmoor - A Dungeons & Dragons Documentary streaming now on Vimeo! - Eye Of The Beholder: The Art of Dungeons and Dragons Watch it. It's an excellent history of the Twin City gamers, including Dave Arneson. Gives a good look at the earliest days of role playing beforre D&D was first published. - Mark Great documentary, btw. I just watched it! Fascinating stuff! - Pete |
Just finished Secrets of Blackmoor, a documentary on the origins of #dnd. If you’re looking at comments to see if this movie is worth your money, I can assure you that it is! Stellar work. Thank you for making it - M.Y. This was such an honor to watch. I viewed it with both of my children, and we were just excited to watch the story of how a game we love so dearly came to be. Just watching the minds and stories, and concepts literally enfold was so cool. It's been a couple hours now and I am still geeking out about how amazing this film is! Sharing with all the gamers I know! - Tina N. A very professional product, the high definition color video is superb, the sound is excellent, and the captions a complimentary addition. The story flows smoothly and is easy to follow. The subject matter is thoroughly researched and very well substantiated...It is a well chronicled documentary of Arneson's participation in, if not the foundation of, the role playing game phenomena. An excellent addition to any gamer's collection into the historical evolution of the role playing game. - Christopher I'd heard some of these stories before in various forms, but hearing them right from the people who lived them... wow! - Sos I have finished watching the movie and I must ask, when is part 2 launching? That was AWESOME. Great interviews, great story, great camera work. Thank you for all the hard work everyone put into it. - Bobby Watched it and enjoyed it.
